چکیده

A lineament is a linear feature in a landscape which is an expression of an underlying geological structure such as a fault. Typically a lineament will comprise a fault-aligned valley, a series of fault or fold-aligned hills, a straight coastline or indeed a combination of these features. Fracture zones, shear zones and igneous intrusions such as dykes can also give rise to lineaments. Lineaments are often apparent in geological or topographic maps and can appear obvious on aerial or satellite photographs. The term 'megalineament' has been used to describe such features on a continental scale. The trace of the San Andreas Fault might be considered an example. The Trans Brazilian Lineament and the TransSaharan Belt, taken together, form perhaps the longest coherent shear zone on the Earth, extending for about 4,000 km. Lineaments have also been identified on other planets and their moons. Their origins may be radically different from those of terrestrial lineaments due to the differing tectonic processes involved (Mostafa and Bishta, 2005; Semere and Ghebreab, 2006).

Fuzzy B-spline algorithm for 3-D lineament reconstruction

Lineaments are vital geological features that play the role of a key indicator for ground water and petroleum searching. At present, there is no study that has utilised remote sensing satellite data to reconstruct three dimensional (3-D) lineament visualization in the Uinted Arab Emirates (UAE). This work aimed at reconstructing a (3-D) lineament visualization from multispectral remote sensing ...

Lineament mapping using multispectral remote sensing satellite data

The main objective of this work is to design an automatic image processing tool for lineament mapping from LANDSAT-TM satellite data. In doing so, three procedures are involved: (i) image enhancement using histogram equalization technique; (ii) automatic lineament detection using Canny algorithm; and (iii) three-dimensional (3D) lineament visualization using SRTM data. The study shows that Cann...

Three-dimensional of coastal front reconstruction using RADARSAT-1 SAR satellite data

Natural phenomena that are imaged using remote sensing satellite data can be reconstructed in 3-D. This process can be accomplished either by active or passive methods. The active methods interfere with the reconstructed phenomena, either mechanically or radiometrically. The radiometric methods reconstruct the 3-D from the reflected or backscattered information about the specific objects or phe...

Optical digital sensor for three-dimensional turbulent flow visualization

The Nikon Coolpix885® conventional digital camera is utilized to reform three-dimensional (3-D) turbulent pattern on lake that is situated in University Technology Malaysia (UTM). The main objective of this study is to use fuzzy arithmetic to reduce the errors arising from noise in digital camera data when constructing turbulent pattern flow. In doing so, the fuzzy B-spline algorithm, which ass...

Differential Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (DINSAR) for 3D Coastal Geomorphology Reconstruction

This paper introduces a new method for three-dimensional (3D) coastal geomorphology reconstruction using differential synthetic aperture interferometry (DInSAR). The new method is based on an integration between fuzzy B-spline algorithm and DInSAR method. DInSAR algorithm is involved two parts: (i) 3D map simulation which is based on interferogram simulation and (ii) satellite orbit parameters....
